Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal remedies
Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) is the most important treatment modality used in China as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and herbal pharmacies can be found in every state hospital in that country. In the West however, lack of familiarity with this discipline has made Acupuncture a more popular treatment. In reality, although Acupuncture is an effective treatment for many health complaints, CHM can be more effective or render quicker results for the more deep-seated /long term problems and can prove effective even where Acupuncture has failed.
CHM has a great deal to offer especially for the treatment of chronic conditions. The results that can be expected and the length of treatment required will depend on the severity of the condition, its duration and the general health of the person.
Like Acupuncture, CHM, is based on the concepts of Yin and Yang. When Yin and Yang are in balance and harmony, there are no symptoms of disease. When symptoms appear, by questioning, observation and careful examination of the pulses and the tongue; the practitioner will look for the origin of the Yin/Yang imbalance, and the ways in which a person's Qi or vitality may be depleted or blocked. Clinical strategies to resolve the imbalance are based upon these findings which will be presented in the form of a TCM diagnosis.
The emphasis is placed not only on restoring harmony through treatment but on preventing further disharmony. This is why advice on lifestyle choices including diet, emotional health and exercise is an important part of treatment. This not only improves health but empowers us to take control of our lives so that we can achieve longevity and happiness.
